in Gigs, JPQ Tour

map_west_coast_volcanoesI am thrilled to report that the Jason Parker Quartet will mount our first ever tour of the West Coast in May, 2010! The band has been together for close to 3 years now, and while we’ve played all over Washington State this will be the first time we’ve crossed a border together. I can’t wait to get out on the road, further bond as a band, get a chance to play every night for 7-10 days straight and take our music and our passion for playing together to new towns and new people.

Since the release of our latest CD, “No More, No Less”, I’ve been trying to figure out how to take the band on the road. As you may imagine, touring a jazz band into unknown territory is not the easiest thing to do without completely loosing my shirt. We’ll most likely have to play predominantly door gigs, i.e. playing for a meager cover charge, which makes us dependent on the venues ability to bring in patrons, or on whatever publicity we can drum up through press releases, local radio, friends and family, etc. Not an easy model with which to make money.

However, I was able to book a very good paying wedding gig in Palm Springs, which will help me offset at least some of the costs of the tour, which include musician fees, van rental, hotels, meals, gas, etc. This is really the only way I can pull it off without losing tons of money, and I have my lovely wife to thank for it, as we’ll be playing for one of her childhood friends.

Stay tuned for more details, full schedule, and information on how YOU can help make this a reality for us!

P.S. – We’ll try to avoid the volcanoes…

Whoo-hoo! I was just going to email you the other day and find out if you’re every coming to Portland (you are…right?).

When in May, Jason? I might be able to get you a gig at my school (I teach at CSU Bakersfield) and have a concert for small jazz ensembles where we could plug you in as a headliner – or maybe something bigger depending…

Email me and let’s see if the dates match up…
