I was so proud to participate in the Seattle Jazz Community Haiti Quake Fundraiser last Wednesday. I played at LUCID Jazz Lounge with four of my great friends, and there were 6 other bands in 6 different venues up and down University Avenue in Seattle. Overall we raised more than $4000 which will be sent directly to the people of Port-au-Prince in the form of medical supplies and food. Thanks to all who came out to show their support!

CBS Evening News was on hand all day to report on the story of David Pierre-Louis, owner of LUCID and a Haitian-American who was directly affected by the tragedy. His trip to Haiti to search for his mother after the quake and his subsequent dedication to doing whatever he can to help out is a truly remarkable and touching story. We need people like David to remind us that we can and must do something to help these folks, not only in the short term but over the next months and years as they try to rebuild their country, their faith, and their lives.

Here is the story that aired on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric:

Local NBC affiliate KING 5 also did a great story on David:

If you’d like to learn more about David and/or contribute to the fund that he has set up to help him bring medical supplies and food to the people of Haiti please visit his website Strength Through Unity or email Richelle Gay for details on how you can help.

It’s cool to see all of these excellent benefit concerts happening for Haiti. Shows how we can all get together and do something positive.
