How cool to see my name in such good company??

Joe Walker is a guitar player who has been studying for his Masters at San Diego State. I got a chance to meet Joe when the JPQ was on tour last Spring and he came out to see us play at Dizzy’s. He introduced himself after the gig and was super nice and complementary, and we became fast Twitter friends!

A few weeks later he wrote to me and asked if he could do a reharmonization of my tune “Bashert”. I was thrilled and honored that he dug the tune enough to want to play it, and of course I said yes. After he completed it he told me he wanted to play it on his Graduate recital. He put it on a set list that also included Charles Mingus, Hoagy Carmichael, Thelonious Monk and Bobby Bradford! How cool is that???

The recital was this past Sunday and it sounds like it went great! Joe videotaped the whole thing, and here is his performance of “Bashert”:

This is the first time I’ve ever heard another band perform one of my compositions. It’s quite a thrill! Thanks to Joe and the band for their inspired performance.

Thanks so much for posting, Jason! It’s an honor to be the first outside the JPQ to perform one of your tunes.
