Celebrate Your Beauty This Sunday at Lucid!

Thanks to my lovely wife I had the pleasure of meeting photographer, author and all-around awesome woman Karen Walrond late last year. Within minutes of meeting she invited Darrah and I to her house for dinner and cooked us a HUGE pot of vegetarian Trinidadian curry. She and her family felt like old friends from the get-go.

Karen has written a fantastic book called The Beauty Of Different: Observations of a Confident Misfit. She contends that what makes us different is also what makes us beautiful, and I couldn’t agree more! When she asked on Twitter for cool ideas for her book tour, Darrah suggested she come to Seattle to do a book reading and have the Jason Parker Quartet back her up. A flurry of emails and direct messages ensued, and in about 3 hours we had put the event together!

I hope you’ll join us this Sunday, January 23rd, at Lucid Jazz Lounge for what is going to be a really cool night of music, readings and celebrating our beauty. Karen will have books on hand if you’d like to purchase one (she’ll even sign it for you). You’ll be inspired, you’ll laugh, you might cry…who knows, maybe there’ll even be a big ol’ dance party! That’s up to you. In any case, it’ll be a unique experience much like the old beatnik readings of the 50’s (see below), with live jazz backing an author.

Here’s Karen’s blog post about the event. And here’s the Facebook invite.

Hope to see you there!
