And now for something completely different...

I’m super excited that my friend Andrew asked my band Water Babies to open for his band Zubatto Syndicate at Seattle’s famed Crocodile Cafe on April 15th.

For you non-Seattlites, The Croc, as we call it, opened just as the Grunge revolution was taking flight, and was home to early concerts by Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and every Seattle band since. It’s also a favorite stop for touring acts like R.E.M., Yoko Ono, Beastie Boys and many more.

What has been absent from their bills is jazz music. Somehow, Andrew was able to talk them into hosting three jazz bands in one night! Joining the Babies and Zubatto will be the Owcharuk 5. This is a wonderful bill featuring bands from three distinct corners of the Seattle jazz scene, and a real coup for improvised music in Seattle.

If you’re in the area we’d love to see you. We hope to pack the house and show them that improvised music can be a good thing for them to feature. Who knows, maybe this’ll be the dawning of a new age for The Croc and jazz in Seattle!

I know right? I never even thought to solicit a gig there before. I feel lucky to add our little bit to the history. We’ll give them a helluva show!

Great to see some active promotion of live jazz!
