My name is Jason and I’m a working musician from Seattle, Wa. I have been making my living in the music industry for 20 years. For the last eight years the majority of my income has come from playing live music. I lead The Jason Parker Quartet, one of the busiest jazz bands in Seattle, and play in a host of other bands, including Clave Nagila, Water Babies, The Nate Omdal Nonet and more. I have toured with Crooked Fingers and Devotchka, and have opened for the likes of Elvis Costello, Spoon and Greta Matassa. I teach music classes for The Experience Music Project and The Right Brain Center for the Arts.

Hi Jason. Say, I stumbled upon your blog because I was trying to find some more Jazz blogs out there. I think it is really cool what you are doing. I myself am TRYING to make a living being a musician. I am a drummer in Chicago, and I just got interested in blogging about Jazz and whatnot. I have been hitting up a lot of the jams and meeting some people, but it still seems really slow yknow? Maybe its the economy or something? anyway, Your web site is really cool, and you give inspiration to me. Good luck with life man.

Great site Jason. What an inspiration to those up and coming freelancers. I freelanced for 12 years in London. I really miss the ‘hustling’ for work but am currently gainfully employed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Wish everyone the best of luck finding a full diary of work.
The freelance trumpeters ‘mantra’ in London used to be, “…Art for Arts’s sake. Money, for God’s sake!”
